Next Album Club is on Friday 16th November at Corina and Ian's house. Choices are St Matthew Passion by J.C. Bach (chosen by Corina, controversial) and Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret by Soft Cell (chosen by Gavin, controversial).
Well, what an excellent night! Controversy and excitement right from the off.
Soft Cell started reasonably, with Jo and Gerry giving the double thumbs-up, but went downhill rapidly after that. 'Seedy'' 'sleazy' and 'sordid' were some of the responses. Almond's out-of-tune warbling also came under attack, whereas I found it a much better record than I remembered.
Lots of support and love for the Bach, although its legitimacy as an 'album' - i.e. a post-1948 musical statement by an individual group or artist with an identifiable musical / lyrical signature - was under scrutiny.
